Wheel balancing

A wheel balancing service makes sure that the weight of your vehicle is distributed evenly around each wheel and that your tyres rotate evenly. We analyse the rotation of your wheels and add small balancing weights to your wheel rims to even out any imbalances.

Having properly-balanced wheels is very important as imbalanced wheels usually leads to excessive vibration that you can feel through your steering wheel once you hit a particular speed. On long journeys this can become very uncomfortable, for both driver and passengers.

Balanced wheels are better for your tyres

What’s worse is that unbalanced wheels can cause uneven and excessive wear on your tyres, your steering system and your suspension, which can lead to expensive repairs and replacements down the line.

At Toat Hill Tyres we can use our equipment to detect the tiniest differences in weight across the wheel and to work out where the balancing weights should go to bring the wheel back into balance.

Wheel alignment

When you bring your vehicle into Toat Hill Tyres for a wheel alignment service, we’ll check the direction and angle of each wheel to make sure they’re parallel to one another. If we find any misalignment, no matter how slight, we’ll adjust the control arms and tie rods to bring your wheels back into alignment.

Having properly-aligned tyres is important as is help you to drive in a truly straight line, without any wobbling or drifting to one side.

Each vehicle manufacturer has its own specifications for “perfect” wheel alignment, so our expert team and our Dunlop alignment machine will be able to work out your optimum alignment and make the right changes to achieve it.

Your wheels need a yearly alignment service

Your vehicle wheels can become misaligned in the course of driving, usually due to poor road conditions, hitting kerbs or potholes and speed bumps. You might notice your car pulling slightly to the left or right, or uneven braking, so when you do, it’s time for an alignment check.

Even if you aren’t experiencing these issues, it’s a good idea to visit us for a check up once a year just to spot and correct any developing misalignments before they become noticeable. Keeping your wheels on the straight and narrow will save you money as your tyres will last longer and you’ll use less fuel thanks to the low rolling resistance of correctly-aligned wheels and tyres.

Tyre pressure monitoring systems

Your tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) constantly monitor the pressure of your tyres – there’s a sensor in each tyre – and they alert you if there’s a pressure change in any of them. You’ll get either a visual warning, an audible warning, or a combination of both.

Your TPMS helps to keep you safe

Having TPMS fitted in your tyres makes your vehicle and your driving safer as the sensors check each tyre’s pressure every few seconds, reducing the chances of a blow out or other tyre pressure-related problems. They also save you from performing manual tyre checks and help to prolong the life of your tyres.

Your pressure sensors are vital for your MOT

If you have a new vehicle or one that’s registered after January 1 2013 and fitted with TPMS, then these sensors are tested at each MOT. If your TPMS isn’t working properly, then your vehicle could well fail its MOT, so bringing your car to us for a TPMS check is a wise move as we can supply, fit and reprogramme a wide range of TPMS.

Brake Checks and Repairs

Your brakes are your vehicle’s most important safety feature. If you suddenly see a hazard on the road, you apply your brakes without even thinking and so they need to be working at their best at all times.

It’s important to watch out for signs of failing brakes

Here at Toat Hill Tyres we’re happy to offer free brake checks to make sure you’re as safe as possible, but you can watch out for brake symptoms as well. Book your car in with us for a brake check if you notice any of the following:

  • An increase in your braking distance, which could mean that your brake pads and discs are wearing out
  • Any new or unusual grinding sounds when you apply the brakes, as this could mean your brakes are worn down
  • Squealing sounds when you apply the brakes, which could indicate that your discs have developed rust, which will need to be removed
  • Fluid patches on your inner wheels, which could indicate a brake fluid leak
  • Uneven braking, with the car pulling to one side when you apply the brakes, which could indicate a problem with the calliper
  • New or unusual vibrations through the steering wheel or brake pedal when you apply the brakes, which could indicate warped discs
  • Having to press the brake pedal to the floor, which may mean a serious leak (this needs immediate attention)
  • The brake warning light flashes (this also needs immediate attention and you should pull over as soon as safely possible)
  • A “sticky” handbrake, as this could cause damage to your brakes over time

We’re here to help

If you suspect your brakes need some attention, then call us on 01403790203 for advice and to book your car in for a check and any necessary repairs or replacements. We can come and collect your vehicle if you don’t feel it’s safe to drive, so don’t worry or take any risks.

We can keep your brakes in good order

Our expert team will check your brakes as part of your car’s annual service to make sure they’re in good working order and we can also replace your brake fluid at the right intervals. Taking care of your brakes helps to keep you, your passengers and other road users safe.

Diagnostics

Toat Hill Tyres doesn’t just do tyres! We like to really get under the bonnet to find out what’s causing that strange rattle or that even stranger smell.

We have a straightforward approach to all of our diagnostic work so that we can identify the problems more efficiently and without making things overcomplicated. When you drop your car off with us, you’ll usually get it back the same day and we have state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and equipment so you can be confident in our findings and recommendations.

You can trust our repairs and replacements

We use branded or OE parts for our repairs and replacements and our work comes with 12-month parts and labour warranties so you can be sure of a longer, smoother ride when you drive away from us.

All this and a great attitude!

We understand how important it is for you to have a garage you can trust, which is why we offer all our customers a friendly and supportive experience, no matter how long they’ve been driving. This means we have customers who are happy to travel the extra mile to us for help.

Book in, drop off and let us do our thing

You can give us a call to arrange a diagnostic appointment; we might be able to work out what’s wrong from your call. Then we’ll arrange for you to drop your car off (or we can collect, remember) between 7.30am and 9.30am and get on with whatever needs to be done.

MOT and service

You and your vehicle are very important to us here at Toat Hill Tyres so we offer all of our customers a very competitively-priced MOT and service package to help your wheels stay on the road.

We can offer you everything you need – with a smile…

Lots of our customers head to us from further afield than Horsham to get their MOTs with us. We can cater for all Class 4 vehicles and carry out a wide range of services on the same day to complement your MOT.

As you know, once your car is more than three years old, it needs an MOT every year. We also recommend that you have a full service every year too – it’s handy and cost-effective to have a full service at the same time as your MOT. If you’re a high-mileage driver (or if you miss us!) you should also book an interim service every twelve months or every 10,000 miles.

Toat Hill Tyres goes lots of extra miles, too

We pride ourselves on our thorough full and interim services, and we never carry out any changes, tweaks or repairs that don’t need doing unless you ask us. This is just one of the reasons that lots of female motorists like to bring their cars to us – they know they won’t be overcharged or end up paying for unnecessary work.

To book your car in for its MOT, with or without a service, give us a call on 01403790203 or use our online booking form to arrange a day that’s convenient for you. We’ll need your vehicle to be with us between 7.30am and 9.30am so we can get everything done in time for you to pick it back up later in the day.

Air conditioning services and repairs

Lots of drivers take their air conditioning system for granted – until it develops a fault and you’re driving along in what feels like a fridge or an oven, depending on the time of year!

At Toat Hill Tyres we understand that you need to be comfortable in order to drive safely so we can re-gas your air conditioning system if it’s lost some or all of its refrigerant so you can drive away as a cool customer!

Aircon systems can develop bacterial colonies or moulds that can cause unpleasant smells in the car cabin, as well as present health hazards to anyone with conditions like asthma, so we can clean your system up for you as well.

If you’re in need of an entirely new aircon system, then that’s no problem either, so give us a call on 01403790203 to discuss your needs and book your car in for a total aircon overhaul.

Puncture repairs

Toat Hill Tyres knows its tyres! This is why you should call us out or head to us if you get a puncture anywhere in the Horsham area.

We can replace run flat tyres, as well as self-seal tyres if the puncture is too large for the self-sealing mechanism to work, and we have a large range of tyres always in stock. In the unlikely event that we don’t have the tyre you need immediately to hand, we can source one for you within hours to get you back on the road.

We take punctures very seriously

Our team of tyre fitters is very experienced, so when they examine your tyres, they’ll know straight away if the tyre can be repaired safely or whether it’ll need to be replaced. We simply won’t carry out any repairs that could put you or other road users at any risk and we’ll give you a full explanation as to why you need a replacement rather than a repair.

To help you to stay extra safe on the road, we’ll probably give your unpunctured tyres a quick once-over as well, as there may be minor damage or wear that you haven’t noticed, and advise you further if necessary.

Always carry a spare tyre

Unless you’re using run flat tyres, you should always have a spare tyre in your boot so you can get to us – albeit at 50mph or slower! Just call us on 01403790203 to let us now you’re on your way and we’ll be ready for you.
